Description

The education path offered with the Second Cycle Degree/Master (LM) in 'Forest Systems Sciences and Technologies' is developed around cultural issues involving biological and agro-forestry disciplines. Many of these topics are often addressed both internationally (e.g., IUFRO Conferences, European Union, climate conferences) and nationally (e.g., National Congress of Silviculture). The disciplines covered in the two-year LM course deal with various topics of the forest system such as forest management and biodiversity conservation in the perspective of climate change, sustainability of woody productions , plant health and protection of forest ecosystems, prevention and management of landslides, technologies for land and landscape management, and the problem of forest fires.

Topics of great interest covered in the LM course in 'Forest Systems Science and Technology' include: the forest-wood supply chain; bioenergy production as environmentally friendly resources for the future; soil, water and forest interactions; forest inventories; ecological land use planning and landscape conservation; sustainable forest management; hydrogeological land protection and landslide prevention.

Employment opportunities

Graduates in Forest Systems Science and Technology will be able to work, with functions of high responsibility, within public and private Entities and Companies, research bodies in the field of forest environment, conservation, protection and improvement of forest resources, in the protection and control of the environment, depollution, coordination, of forest environmental development plans, management of Parks and protected areas, non-governmental bodies operating in the field of nature conservation and sustainable development.

The Master's Degree in Forest Systems Science and Technology allows access to the Ph.D. and master's degree programs. In addition, the degree obtained allows participation in the competition for qualification as a doctor of agriculture and forestry. Graduates who have sufficient credits in appropriate groups of fields will be able-as provided for by current legislation-to participate in the admission tests for secondary teaching training paths.

Articulation of training activities and curricula

The Master Degree Course in Forest Systems Science and Technology lasts two years and corresponds to the achievement of 120 University Training Credits (CFU in italian). The Study Programme includes:

  • 11 examinations related to as many courses of which 7 are common to all courses,
  • the performance of an applied practical internship,
  • the performance of a master's thesis.

The educational path of the Master's Degree Course in Forest Systems Science and Technology proposes a common part in the first year, which is followed in the second year by 4 alternative curricula with differentiated educational objectives.
